Passing out area (room) at the Hotel Rex. | |
The main hotel at which we are recommending that everyone try to stay is the Hotel Rex near Union Square in San Francisco (map and directions). We stumbled across it with Susie in June, looking for a place to eat before going to see The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (which was a terribly entertaining show). We didn't have much time to eat, so we were just looking for a place for a cocktail and appetizers and randomly parked on the same block as the Hotel Rex. We had good drinks and food and discovered that the rooms weren't too expensive. A couple of weeks later we went back to look at the rooms and decided that this would be the hotel of choice for us. It also didn't hurt that they said they could keep their bar open later for a post-wedding celebration and that there was a cool bar/art gallery next door (Lucid) where several of the Rex staff DJ.
Making Reservations and Room Rates at The Hotel Rex
Please call 1.800.433.4434 to make a reservation under the "Laurie Below Wedding." The below room rates are available up until March 7, 2007. After that date, we lose our block and rates may go up. They were trying to get us to pay $189 for a queen room because some big convention is in town that weekend, but luckily we found cheaper rates on their website and they honored them. Also, they have 94 rooms, which seems like a lot, but we expect over half of our attendees to be from out-of-town so you will want to book early.
- $149 - Queen Rooms
- $169 - Double Beds or King Rooms
- $189 - King Executive Rooms
Rates do not include San Francisco hotels taxes. Rollaway beds are $20/night and there are no additional charges for guests or children when using existing bedding.
Other Hotels
While we are encouraging everyone to stay at the Hotel Rex, one of reasons we picked the Union Square area is that there are a multitude of hotels in the area. In fact, we also have a block of rooms at the slightly fancier JW Marriott (formerly the Pan Pacific), which is just around the corner from the Hotel Rex.
There are also plenty of fancier hotels nearby, such as the Hyatt and The Westin St. Francis, etc. However, just keep in mind that if you are not staying at the Hotel Rex or the JW Marriot, we recommend staying in the Union Square area, largely because we will be arranging for transportation to and from the wedding reception from that the Hotel Rex and the JW Marriot. Otherwise, you'll be on your own.
